Today kicked off with literally being head butted in the face.
My daughter was back in our bed again after a hard night and despite the fact she had a shot at breaking my nose, she immediately clasped onto my hand and tried her best to sleep for the rest of the night. Sadly, that’s not how I work and once I was awake, I was awake. So I took off for work early – I headed out for Beconsfield over in Buckinghamshire in the early hours. I didn’t have to pick up any of my team because today was the last day of tour.
The End.
Because it was the last day, and because everyone has their own cars and their own houses to go back to, everyone jumped in their own vehicle (or hitched a lift) and headed around the M25 to the other side of London. I arrived two hours earlier than everyone else and so I sat in a Starbucks editing some social media videos together.
For our last show we were treated to a lovely stage with curtains, and a great staff who treated us very well (in spite of the fact that we bullied them mercilessly for the best part of two hours). The show went well, and although it might not have been our finest, I think we and most importantly the audience, had fun.
The Long Way Back
Getting back from there wasn’t as simple as going back to Essex – no. We had to go to Maidstone first to drop off all our kit in the van, retrieve my car from one of my colleague’s nan’s house, and return the van to the hire company. The whole process took the best part of four hours, simply because the rest of the team opted to stop for food before heading back whilst I just wanted to get home.
Several hours later I finally got home and was treated to an plate of well-deserved beige before settling in for the evening routine.
Next
I’ve been thinking about having to think about what is next. And it hurts. So I’ve opted to give myself a little time to recover from the events of the past two months. To take stock, and start again. Maybe I’ll get a massage, maybe take in a film – who knows. I think I might have to take it easy for a week, at least. Let’s see.
