I woke up today to a day with my daughter.
Beyond the usual, there isn’t much to say, really. We went to tumble tots together, we headed home for lunch – I took her to the doctors for some pre-school injections, and then we watched a film and had a hot chocolate. All in all it was a relaxed, lovely day with the girl.
I don’t know that patience is coming easier to me – I still have to remind myself just how small and young she is. It’s not her job to understand why she doesn’t respond to my expectations the way I think she should. Mostly, I forget. But from time to time, I smile at her, and it’s her ridiculous naiveity that is what makes her wonderful. Humans are such a complicated mess, that it is nice she isn’t there yet.
Back to Talliston
Once Becky returned from her day out, I headed out myself and up to Talliston House and Gardens for a writing circle with the owner and his friends. The house never fails to strike awe in me, and I’m glad to be part of it, but I’m not sure if it is furthering my writing, as it stands. John, the owner, is very accomplished, and that can be quite intimidating.
It seems it was largely agreed that I should be focussing on my PhD… which makes sense, although I was a bit put out to not be writing something more creative. Still the year is long – there will be time.
